- Several categories of employees are eligible to receive Flex benefits from the City of Los Angeles
For certain employees, the City of Los Angeles offers benefits known as “Flex Benefits” that cover a wide range of areas, including financial health, mental and physical health, tax planning and retirement savings, and more. In short, Flex benefits from Los Angeles cover just about every aspect of personal care.
Several categories of Los Angeles employees are eligible for Flex benefits – employees who are eligible for membership in an employee representation group which has Flex benefits negotiated, employees who are not represented by an employee representation unit, employees who are police officers (and are members of Tier 5 and of Tier 6 of the Fire and Police Pension System), or employees who are elected officials of the city or full-time members of the Los Angeles Board of Public Works Department.

- Flex benefits enrollment occurs each year, and offers Los Angeles employees the option to make changes to their Flex benefits package one time each year, or when a “major life event” like a marriage, birth or death occurs
Regular Los Angeles half time civilian employees may also be eligible for Flex benefits. Half-time employees must be paid for at least 20 hours every pay period to make sure that they remain eligible for their Flex benefits. Los Angeles employees who are part-time, intermittent, seasonal, temporary, or similar positions are not eligible to receive Flex benefits.
