Sitagliptin (trade name Januvia) is marketed my Merck and helps patients suffering from diabetes mellitus type 2. The drug is an oral antihyperglycemic (antidiabetic drug) of the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor class. Some side effects noted in clinical trials include joint pain, nausea (rare) and common cold-like symptoms. The drug was approved by the FDA on October 17, 2006 and is often combined with other drugs to help treat diabetes mellitus type 2.
