iPhone Users Beware- There’s a Bug Going Round

0

The latest iOS bug to hit the iPhone is annoying albeit relatively harmless.

It does however, follow on from a number of recent debacles for Apple regarding iOS software.

For example, you may remember the 8.0.1 update which was pulled after users found that it could kill cell service and adversely affect the Touch ID feature.

Or perhaps you recall the similarly ill-fated iOS 8.3 update which completely killed the Touch ID feature.

Either way, this latest bug isn’t exactly a rare occurrence but rather reflective of continued and recent problems faced by Apple.

Thankfully for iPhone users it’s not quite Mobilegeddon…

The cause of the bug is a seemingly harmless set of Arabic and Unicode characters that can cause iPhones to crash and temporarily leave users without their messaging functionality.

Reddit-

First highlighted on this Reddit thread, one savvy user has highlighted the Unicode within the message as the root of the problem; the Arabic is of no consequence.

Effectively, the particular Unicode used within the message is: ‘never-ending and so when the phone tries to read it, it goes into an infinite loop which crashes it.’

As you can imagine, given that the bug is not particularly threatening it is already being utilised by pranksters to annoy their friends.Reddit

Luckily, while Apple has been slow on the uptake there appears to be a simple resolution to the problem.

If you receive the message with the Unicode you can retrieve your iPhone’s functionality by simply ‘replying with a message.’

So while Apple is ‘aware’ of the issue and working on a software release to iron out the bug, you don’t have to worry too much about this prank- unless you have overtly persistent friends who enjoy a prank…

Jony Ive is Now Apple’s Chief Design Officer

0

Apple has promoted Jony Ive, from his previous position of vice president of User Interface and Industrial Design, to a newly created position as the Chief Design Officer. In a memo from Tim Cook, Ive will be handing over managerial duties of both software design and industrial units to two new leaders beginning in July 1st.

The new role will enable Ive oversee Apple’s hardware and software design teams without focus on management duties, which was the case previously. According to Cook, Jony is “one of the most talented and accomplished designers of his generation, with an astonishing 5,000 design and utility patents to his name. His new role is a reflection of the scope of work he has been doing at Apple for some time.”

The memo goes on to describe Jony’s previous involvement in the look and feel of Apple’s retail stores, the new campus under construction and how all of this experience qualifies him for his new position. The new position will now see Jony take over all the company design with a particular focus on current design projects, new ideas, and future initiatives.

The previous role of Industrial Design will now be run by Richard Howarth, who has been with Apple’s  industrial design team for two decades. Alan Dye will oversee the User Interface Design department bringing with him nine years of experience. He has also previously collaborated with Jony in the design and development of iOS and the Apple Watch.

Jony played a key role in the design of the original iPhone and has also been revealed to have had a major input in the design of the Cupertino “spaceship” campus that will house over 12,000 Apple employees.

Apple is now the most valuable company on Earth standing at $764B. With Tim Cook reinforcing the element of design even more, Apple is expected to be the first company in history to be worth a trillion dollars. The role of Jony as the Chief Design Officer will no doubt play a role in this.

How to send an animated GIF message from your iPhone or iPad

0

Animated GIFs have exploded on the internet, and for good reason. Sometimes a simple image or plain text just can’t capture the emotions you want to share with others, and you need an animated GIF to show people how you really feel. If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can send your friends or family an animated GIF in just a few quick steps.

Sending an animated GIF from your iOS device is a two-step process that requires you first to find the image you want to share and then insert it into the message that you are sending.

  1. Open Mobile Safari and search for the GIF you want to send.
  2. Copy the animated GIF by tapping and holding until the “Copy” option appears
  3. Tap “Copy” to copy the GIF to your clipboard.
  4. Open iMessage and tap the Compose button in the upper right corner.
  5. Type in the name or the phone number of the recipient. You also can tap the “+” to choose a contact from your address book
  6. Type in any text that you wish to add to the message and then tap and hold until the “Paste” option appears
  7. Tap “Paste” to add the GIF to the message. Note that the GIF animation will be static when you are creating the message. Rest assured, it will be animated once it is sent.
  8. Tap “Send” to send the message

One of the most popular repositories for finding animated GIFs is Giphy. Giphy tags each animated GIF with keywords that you can use as a search term. Just search for keywords like”mic drop,” “dancing,” or “happy” to find the best GIFs for your message. It has a helpful option underneath each GIF that allows you to copy and paste an image from its website to use in a text message. You also can find GIFs at The Perfect GIF Tumblr blog or Imgur, or can even create your own using YouTube’s built-in GIF creation tool with select videos, such as these from the PBS Idea Channel.

This is the newest amongst the emulators mentioned and it is also probably the most interesting. Droid4X emulator is designed for the real Power. Droid4X has salient features. This android emulator supports every platform given on this list (apart from the Nintendo DS, Atari 2600 Nintendo 64, and Nintendo 64) and others including Neo Geos Pocket Color, Sega CD, Virtual Boy and even several ports of DOOM. Gensoid Android Emulator

Forget the PS3 versus 360 scuffles that is seen today. Back in the 1990s, nothing was contested more hotly in the school playgrounds than rivalry between the Sega Mega Drive and the SNES. Both consoles had a 16-bit memory and could also play solid arcade conversions. This android emulator is simple to get running just like its Nintendo equivalent. Gensoid is a solid performer (and is one of th best android emulators) with same options and tweaks nestled in the menus. Gensoid is a personal favorite for many people as it runs beautifully. The addition of the ‘save anywhere’ function takes off the edge thus enabling you to complete the game just in one go. However, unlike the SNESoid, Gensoid has minor graphical glitches that abound it. Gensoid is a very solid piece of software that specifically suited for the platformers such as Sonic.
